"Color is very much about atmosphere and emotion and the feel of a place" - 365 Project, Day 154

Colour adds realism to a picture; black and white adds atmosphere to a picture.  It depends on the look you're going for, but they both have their uses.  Selective colouring, that is to say, only bringing out one colour in an otherwise desaturated picture, is suppose to evoke a special emotion.  It is neither realistic or atmospheric, but is suppose to hit on a more basic level.

Everybody that has seen "Schindler's List" remembers the one use of the colour red to evoke emotion.  Whether bringing out the red of a flower, or the blue of someone's eyes in an otherwise black and white photo, selective colouring is a somewhat-cheesy way of getting the response you want, though, if used properly, quite powerful.

Shannon decided to send two pictures, which compensates for Frank's not sending anything, for reasons not really important for this blog.

Her note: Loved the sky.  And another shot I really liked.

I find this kind of appropriate, if a bit morbid.  This is a window overlooking a waiting area in a hospital.  The effect is subtle, but the colour has been drained, except for the blue of the sky.

I should see more of the exterior world tomorrow than I have in the past few weeks (thanks to work and overbearing humidity, neither of which should be present tomorrow).
